New installation 'Traces, Molten' premiering Leicester, Sep 13-16

 

Coming Sep 13-16, 2022, to LCB Depot in Leicester: my new audiovisual installation Traces, Molten — as part of the British Science Festival! Traces, Molten invites participants to contemplate a continually transforming immersive landscape, driven by mathematical processes. Perhaps this is a glimpse of the exquisite, molten dance of millions of sub-atomic particles — or traces of an intangible order underlying the cosmos.

New Installation: 'Three Breaths in Empty Space' – Nov 19 - Dec 31 2019

Three Breaths in Empty Space is my new multi-channel sound and video installation, commissioned by Phoenix Cinema, Leicester, to celebrate the 10^th Anniversary of their move to the Cultural Quarter. It will run mid-November to the end of December, filling the Phoenix Gallery with abstract computer animations and surround sound generated with custom software systems. The work invites participants to contemplate continuous change and shimmering instabilities in everything from subatomic activity to the level of the cosmos. Are we witnessing quantum foam on invisible waves, nerve patterns in the body-mind, maps of social structures coalescing and transforming, or transfigurations of some vast nebula? As ghostly fragments of Maurice Ravel’s piano work Ondine occasionally materialise and dissolve at peaks of audiovisual intensity, we can ponder how phenomena arise and pass in Emptiness.

Premiere Performances of "The Five"

My new piece, The Five (for vibraphone and responsive audiovisuals), commissioned by percussionist Andrew Spencer, will be premiered by him in his U.S. tour autumn 2015. The first three performances of his tour are October 30 at University of Northern Colorado, November 3 at San Jose State University, and November 6 at Arizona State University.

Premiere and Lecture at Reykjavic Visual Music - Punta y Raya Festival

This week sees the premiere of Triptych Unfolding, my new collaboration with Icelandic composer Hugi Guðmundsson, with Hugi on live electronics, Tinna Thorsteinsdottir on piano, and me performing live visuals. This will be part of the Opening Night Concert, on Thursday.

On Friday I will present a lecture on Visual Music in the Digital Age: A Historical Perspective at the Icelandic Academy of the Arts, 12:30 pm.

Clonal Colonies will be part of the official Punta y Raya competition selection, reel number one.

Plus I will participate in the panel judging the Live Cinema competition.
