'Clonal Colonies I' at Punto y Raya / Cineteca Madrid June 20, 2025


'Clonal Colonies I' was part of a screening of Visual Music works, on June 20, 2025, curated by the Punto y Raya Festival for presentation at Cineteca Madrid as part of celebrations for World Music Day.


'time, bruised, selves' receives Honorable Mention, MuVi7 Exhibition


Drs Bret Battey and Deniz Ertan's collaborative audiovisual installation 'time, bruised, selves' has been awarded an Honourable Mention in the MuVi7 International Exhibition of Video on Synaesthesia and Visual Music, Granada, Spain. The video will show at the VIII International Congress "Synaesthesia: Science and Art," which will take place from October 23rd to 25th 2025 at Convento Capuchinos and Palacio Abacial, Alcalá la Real, Jaén, Spain.

Screenings/Papers at Musicacoustica Hangzhou and Sound/Image Greenwich

My audiovisual composition 'Estauries 4' has been programmed for the Musicacoustica Hangzhou Festival, China, which runs Sep 24-29 at the Zhejiang Conservatory of Music. 

'Estuaries 4' has been programmed for the Sound/Image Festival 2024 at University of Greenwich, where I will also present my audiovisual installation work 'Traces, Molten' and a paper on 'Estuaries 4'.

Prof Bret Battey's audiovisual composition 'Estuaries 4' has been selected for inclusion in the Texas Tech University 'Electronic Nights' concert series. 'Estuaries 4' will appear in concert April 17, 2024 at the Texas Tech School of Music.

Masterclass and screening: Punto y Raya, Lisbon, October

I will be presenting a masterclass on Tue, October 10, as part of the Punto y Raya Festival in Lisbon. The festival will be the eighth edition of Punto y Raya, which describes itself as "The Most Abstract Festival in the World"— "a feast of pure form, colour, motion and sound". Battey's film Estuaries 4 will also be screened as part of the festival. The masterclass, entitled 'Six Works, Seven Years, Millions of Dots', will focus on audiovisual composition and algorithms in my "Estuaries" series and recent installation works.

New installation 'Traces, Molten' premiering Leicester, Sep 13-16

 

Coming Sep 13-16, 2022, to LCB Depot in Leicester: my new audiovisual installation Traces, Molten — as part of the British Science Festival! Traces, Molten invites participants to contemplate a continually transforming immersive landscape, driven by mathematical processes. Perhaps this is a glimpse of the exquisite, molten dance of millions of sub-atomic particles — or traces of an intangible order underlying the cosmos.

Estuaries 4
has been selected for screening by the Over the Real International Festival of Video Art. The Festival will run September 24 – October 2, 2022 in Lucca, Tuscany, Italy. 

'Estuaries 4' awarded 'best video' by the MuVi6 festival


Estuaries 4 has been awarded 'best video' by the MuVi6 International Exhibition of Video and Moving Image on Synesthesia and Visual Music. It will be featured in an upcoming book and a conference held by the Faculty of Fine Arts “Alonso Cano”, University of Granada (Spain) and Convento de Capuchinos, Alcalá la Real (Jaén, Spain), 26-29th October 2022

Visible Bits, Audible Bytes 2021 + Premiere of 'Estuaries 4'

 

This Friday, Nov 12 2021, I am presenting a screening of new, experimental sound-and-image work on the fantastic digital-cinema projection system and 7.1 sound at Phoenix cinema in Leicester. See how artists and composers from around the world are using new technologies to animate imaginative audio-visual worlds and explore new relationships between sound and the moving image. 

This will include the premiere of my new work 'Estuaries 4'.

CVM Screening at Tokyo Museum of Photographic Art

Clonal Colonies I will be screened as part of a new program from the Center for Visual Music: Oskar Fischinger, Visual Music and Motion Graphics screens at the Tokyo Museum of Photographic Art as part of the Yebisu International Festival for Art & Alternative Visions. Featuring films by Bret Battey, Jordan Belson, Mary Ellen Bute, Sean Capone, Scott Draves, Jules Engel, Oskar Fischinger, Paul Fletcher, Michel Gagné, Norman McLaren, Baerbel Neubauer, Robert Seidel, John Stehura, and Steve Woloshen. Screens at the museum February 6, 11 and 21.

Estuaries 3 in SeenSound, Oct 3, 2020

The streaming October 2020 edition of SeenSound (on October 3, 6 pm Australia) will include my Estuaries 3.

This edition of SeenSound celebrates the publication of Sound and Image: Aesthetics and Practice (edited by Andrew Knight-Hill) and features works from contributors to the book, including:
